Kappa Chapter Founders’ Day
March 20, 2010
Join the celebration!!

Kappa Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa will celebrate its Founders Day in State College on Saturday, March 20, 2010. The chapter house will be the site of this year’s activities to celebrate over 100 years of  Brotherhood, Scholarship and Character within the fraternity. Plans have been made to enjoy a cocktail hour at 5:30 PM and then dinner at 6:30 PM. Also, new this year and the start of a tradition will be the announcement of brothers of the year for both the active chapter and  alumni. In addition, brothers will be honored and plaques will be placed in the Chapter house identifying contributors to the “Reason To Be Proud” capital campaign.

Brothers from all eras are encouraged to attend to meet the actives and renew acquaintances with alumni. This event is planned on a relatively quiet weekend at Penn State and accommodations should be available at some local hotels in and around town. So call some of those old friends and meet in State College for an enjoyable time reminiscing and sharing new stories. To assist with planning, a note of attendance to Roger Barton, Kappa ’69, at rogbarton@comcast.net, would be appreciated but is not required. So we hope to see many of you on March 20th in our newly remodeled and modern Kappa house.

Support the Reason to Be Proud Campaign
Dear Fellow Kappa Brothers,

The time has come to wrap up The Reason to Be Proud Campaign. It is time to bring it all together to close The Phi Sig Circle of Brotherhood and finish what was started five years ago.

Now is the time to make that investment in the future of Kappa Chapter and the many young brothers yet to be. This will assure the learning and brotherhood for many decades to come unlike the several chapters that have closed at Penn State in the past few years. Many of you have already contributed to the campaign. We thank you for your generosity and support. But we are not out of the financial woods yet. With a loan in excess of $900,000 and a changing interest rate every five years we must take every precaution to protect the financial stability of the chapter. Click here to download a pledge form.

We have all experienced a strong bond with Phi Sig over the years in spite of where our travels may have taken us. Let us all join in supporting the future of Kappa Chapter as we continue to grow in the second century of our proud traditions. Again this can be done by making your investment now in the campaign. This will assure you a place on the honor roll of brother’s plaque to be unveiled at the Founders Day celebration on Saturday March the 20th. Of course all are most heartily invited.

The campaign and renovations have been the largest and most significant event for Kappa Chapter since the house was built in 1926. I look forward to having you all join in making this a very successful campaign as we all “Hail the Ever Growing Throng of Phi Sigma Kappa”.

Thon 2010 Raises Record $7,838,054.36
The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic  Dance Marathon raised a grand total of $7,838,054.36 at this year’s 46 hour event held Friday, February 19th through Sunday, February 21st.  The annual event raises funds and awareness for the fight against pediatric cancer.

Kappa Chapter Alumnus of the year
The Alumni Board is excited and pleased to announce the kick off of the first annual Kappa Chapter Alumnus of the Year Award. The award will be presented as part of our Founders Day celebration on Saturday, March 20th. We also expect to have an active of the year awarded at the same time. Please read the following information to recommend one of you deserving brothers.
Come out on March 20th to meet this years outstanding alum (not that all of you are not outstanding after all you are Phi Sigs) and join the camaraderie as we celebrate our one hundred and eleventh year. See you all on the 20th.
